On these pages we showcase a selection of the wonderful safari camps and lodges available to our guests in Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Should you wish to extend your safari we also feature some excellent hotels in South Africa and beautiful beach properties in Mozambique.
Our website does not include all of the camps, lodges and hotels we offer our guests, rather a selection of our favourites to give a flavour of what is available. The options we recommend for you will be based on your own personal preferences. Some of the camps we feature, particularly in Botswana, only accommodate a handful of guests and are very popular. You may have to book well over a year in advance during peak season in order to get your first choice of camps.
The variety of terminology for safari accommodation can be confusing to the first-timer who may logically think that staying in a Tented Camp means they will be “camping”. This is often far from the case. A Tented Camp may refer to anything from a small dome tent with shared facilities and bucket shower on a basic mobile safari to a highly luxurious “tent” which bears absolutely no relation to those we use when camping. At this top end the tented rooms will often have large wooden verandas and even private plunge pools. Bedrooms will be spacious with a proper bed and en-suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor shower. In most cases (although there are exceptions) the focus on providing an authentic wilderness experience means that even the high end safari camps do not have air conditioning or hairdryers in rooms. If these amenities are important to you please let us know.
Another consideration when choosing a safari camp is the type of activities on offer. Some camps may only offer walking activities, although at the majority of camps the focus is almost exclusively on game drives. Water activities are offered at certain destinations and may vary from a sunset cruise or gentle mokoro ride to a week long safari canoeing the Zambezi. A few camps specialise in horse riding safaris or even elephant back safaris.
If you are travelling with children you should note that many safari camps have age restrictions. Please contact us for advice on family-friendly safaris.
We can also arrange safaris in malaria-free areas.
If this is your first safari we understand that you probably won’t know exactly what you want but we are here to provide guidance, inform you of the options and ultimately arrange a trip of a lifetime. In order to get this right your input is vital. Basically the more you are able to tell us about your preferences the better we can advise you!
Budget is often a key factor in deciding on a safari. Safaris can be very expensive and sometimes it is better to tell us what you want to spend and then let us work out the best options within your budget.
With safaris there is generally (but not always) a strong correlation between price and the quality of experience. However the price can often be reduced significantly by avoiding the peak season. Also some destinations are more expensive than others. South Africa is often a good option for a more budget conscious traveller. Another cost effective option is to join a small group on a small group set departure.
